ABOUT US

In 2010, the Ladies PROBUS Club of the North Shore had a large waiting list for membership which warranted the formation of a second North Shore Ladies’ Club.   The Lions Gate Women’s PROBUS Club of the North Shore Vancouver (LGW PROBUS) was born out of this need. It received its official Charter on September 15, 2010, from the National Director of PROBUS District 2, John Leonard. Brenda Johnson, Sue Campbell, and (the late) Kathy Jackson were instrumental in the formation of the new club.

The first president and our first Honorary Member (2021), Sheilah Grant, writes “It was a great experience as I met some very talented women, many of whom I had not known before, who assisted me in getting the new club going”.  Membership dues in 2010 were $60.

Initial membership of the new club was 200, but it quickly grew to 270. Today, post- COVID, we have 195 members with annual membership dues of $100. Due to the capacity of available venues our maximum membership is 225.

We currently enjoy the West Vancouver Yacht Club for our monthly speaker meetings, having moved from the Capilano Golf and Country Club, which was the initial venue for the club.

In addition to our monthly speaker meetings and spontaneous after meeting lunches, we have enjoyed many Special Events over the years.  Some of these include annual Christmas luncheons, Art Gallery visits, Haute Couture exhibits, Gourmet Warehouse visit, CBC tour, lunch at Vancouver Culinary School, a Theatrical tour of the New Shipyards in North Vancouver, a tour to the Richmond Oval Olympic Experience, Dr Sun Yet Sen Gardens, Chinatown Storytelling Centre with  Chinese BBQ lunch and more.

The club is full of vibrant and welcoming members. Please consider joining us for fellowship and education. See the “Contact us” portion of the web site for more information.
